Woodlands Speaks is a community led Partnership that has been established to deliver the Big Local Initiative in the village of Woodlands which is 5 miles north of Doncaster in South Yorkshire.

Big Local is funded by the Big Lottery which is investing up to £200 million in 100 – 150 urban and rural neighbourhoods that have been overlooked for funding in the past. The funding is being invested as a charitable endowment with at least £1m allocated to each community to be spent over 10 years. An independent organisation called the Local Trust has been set up to help local areas decide how to spend their allocations.

The Woodlands Speaks Partnership is made up of local residents and has been working in the community for the last 2 years delivering a series of small projects and engaging with local people to develop a commonly owned Action Plan for the village. It has a well established Steering Group that has received approval to its Plan and is now moving forward into a delivery phase.

To help the Partnership do this it now needs the support of a community projects expert to work with them to work with them and the local community to implement the key projects it has agreed in its  Action Plan.

The Partnership needs someone with significant experience of project delivery and working with the community. The person appointed will need to get projects moving, generate community interest and see things through to successful delivery.

Woodlands Speaks, is a group of Woodlands residents, voluntary and community sector organisations supporting Woodlands, that meet to discuss how to spend the grant of £8,500 that they recieved from the Big Lottery Getting People Involved Fund, to help to get people involved in their community.

This is the first bit of funding coming to the area from the £1m additional grant that was announced last year by the Big Lottery and will be part of a 10 year programme designed get more local residents and groups involved in identifying and delivering improvements in their community.

North Doncaster Development Trust, a local charity delivering regeneration projects that offer support to communities in Doncaster, has been nominated to hold the money on behalf of Woodlands Speaks.

The Woodlands Speaks steering group includes representatives from the tenants and residents association, the All Saints Church, Brodsworth Miners Welfare , local Councillors, children’s centres, local schools and local community groups and residents.  The steering group have developed a proposal to implement a range of events, meetings and other activities over the next 6 months to let people know about the Big Lottery Funding and also to give local people a chance to say how the funding should be used.
