Transition Town Bentley
27th November 2009
NDDT is going green and taking a stance on environmental issues within our communities. Since attending the first Transition Town Bentley meeting in early November the staff have begun to take very seriously issues concerning our local communities and are now committed to making them more self-sufficient, greener and altogether better places to live!
NDDT’s newly formed Green Team is fired up following the well attended meeting, which discussed the threats of climate change and peak oil and how these are increasingly threatening our local environment. The event was organised by Local Friends of the Earth group representatives Keith Whittaker, Lynette Chipp, Stephen Platt and Adam Howard, and the main question on everyone’s lips was ‘What can Bentley do to help itself?’
Many, many suggestions were made ranging from growing our own food to monitoring and reducing our individual electricity consumption. The next Transition Town Bentley meeting plans to discuss these suggestions in more detail and work out an action plan for real change.
The meeting is open to anyone and NDDT strongly urges anyone who has concerns or feels they could add something to the discussions to turn up on the night and get involved!
The meeting will take place on Tuesday 1st December at 7pm, at The Bentley Baptist Church (opposite the Pavilion).
The future of the planet is important to us all right now and increasingly has a place high up national and international agendas but it’s important to start at grass roots level in the communities and villages in which we live. So please get involved and make a difference today for tomorrow.
