Tinkerbell surprise

25th September 2009

North Doncaster Development Trust’s (NDDT) Key Support Worker Team Leader, Barry Blackham made Bethny Richards’ Dreams Come True, when he arranged for her to meet her favourite character, Tinker Bell, at Thorne SEC’s recent summer fair.

Bethny was stunned when she was called to NDDT’s stand, where Tinker Bell presented her with a special certificate signed ‘To Bethny, from your Best Friend Tinker Bell.’

Barry has been supporting Bethny and her mother Diane Richards for a while now. Bethny, aged 18, has a number of health problems, and her mother is her career.

Barry commented;

 “Such a simple thing has made such a massive impact in Bethny’s life.  This is an excellent example of partnership working between NDDT’s Key Support Worker contract with Best and other organisations such as Autism Plus.”

The ‘Best’ Key Worker Contract’s aim is to remove barriers to work throughout South Yorkshire. These barriers may be related to housing, childcare problems, debt issues, lack of basic skills or health issues.

From the support Bethny received, she now attends Thorne SEC five days a week. Her mother is delighted with her progress and now finds she has more time to relax.

Diane says;

“Bethny is settled and enjoying her days at Thorne SEC and I am thinking about getting a part time job!”
