Future Prospects event

Future Prospects event is right on the money
The first Future Prospects event (Tuesday, 13 January) designed to help and advise Doncaster residents as we enter a global economic crisis was a huge hit with visitors.
People were able to wander around the 25 exhibiting partner organisations to pick up information and ask questions. Of the nearly 100 registered visitors 87% found the event useful.
The free events are being held at Doncaster College’s Hub Building every Tuesday until the end of February and form part of an ongoing cross partnership effort by local public sector organisations. At the events residents who need it will receive guidance on a wide range of issues from how to find jobs and training opportunities to help on claiming benefits and tax credits.
Mayor Martin Winter said: “I am delighted so many people turned up to gain much-needed support. We are obviously entering difficult times and that’s why we are working hard with our other partners to ensure there is a broad package of measures and help available. “I urge anyone who is struggling at the moment to attend one of these Future Prospect events, which are taking place every Tuesday for the next six weeks.”
Doncaster College Principal Rowland Foote said: "The event was extremely successful and exhibitors were busy throughout the day. Exhibitors say they helped dozens of people with varying problems and have even helped someone start up their own business."
Nikki Siddall, Project Leader for the Jobmates programme, who exhibited at the event said: "It was encouraging to see so many people at this first Future Prospects event. Over 20 people signed up to the Jobmates project and they will now benefit from ongoing careers help from one of our 16 experienced advisers. Events like this are the ideal way for people from across the borough to find out about the recently launched Jobmates project, which is run by North Doncaster Development Trust and forms part of the Success Doncaster programme."
