The Doncaster borough has within it some of the most deprived areas of Britain. The demise of the coal mining industry, along with engineering and associated industries, has left a legacy of high levels of unemployment, under investment, low incomes, poor health and bad housing.
NDDT was established in 2002 as a vehicle to help reduce levels of deprivation and to assist in the economic, social and environmental regeneration of the area. It has aims to promote health and well-being, accessible learning and economic opportunity. The Trust now employs over 50 people on a wide range of projects and contracts and has a turnover of £2.7 million.
