South Yorkshire Wheels2Work

Kickstart Scooters Previously known in Doncaster as Kickstartthis scooter loaning project is now, in conjunction with the Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley schemes, known as South Yorkshire Wheels 2 Work (SYW2W).

   

Funded by Yorkshire Forward (ERDF programme) and Coalfields Regeneration Trust until July 2011, the project aims to help people who find it difficult to get to work, college or training because of insufficient or inappropriate public transport, via the loan of a scooter.

 It is available to anyone:-

  • Aged 16 or above
  • In possession of a provisional/full licence (both paper and card parts are required)
  • Living or working in the Borough of Doncaster, who is employed, in training or attending    College but struggling to get there. (Evidence of this will be required - ie bus timetables; Employer Declaration) 
  • With a suitable, secure location at home, eg shed, garage etc in which to house the scooter

The scheme provides the loan of a fully maintained and insured scooter, together with a security lock and all the relevant safety gear.  Our maintenance providers are situated in Bentley (Stuart Firth) and Askern (Prospect Motorcycles).  Compulsory Bike Training (CBT) is also provided and takes place in Armthorpe.  

Doncaster's scooter fleet consists of 50cc MBK Ovettos; MBK Nitros; Piaggio Zips; Syms; Peugeot Vivacitys; CPI Aragons (Both 50cc and 125cc); Honda Leads (100cc); Beeline (Both 50cc and 125cc).  

Key statistics

Since the new funding began on 14/7/08, 239 throughout South Yorkshire have so far been helped to access employment, college or training!
