Jobs Fair & Well Being Day July 2010
North Doncaster Development Trust’s annual Jobs Fair & Well Being Day provided the people of Doncaster with lots of support to help them back to work.
In attendance were two large recruitment agencies; Manpower UK Ltd were promoting jobs with local employers, and PMP Recruitment were promoting 500 warehouse jobs.
For those in need of extra support to find a job, such as writing a CV or preparing for an interview, NDDT’s Jobmates team, Shaw Trust, and Remploy were on hand to help people break down their barriers to work. Sarah Barrow, who attended the event commented: “I found the event very interesting and informative. I can now get my CV sorted out and hopefully get more job interviews.”
To help individuals fill their skills gaps and gain experience, local training providers and volunteer organisations were also exhibiting. Doncaster College handed out over 150 prospectus packs to people showing interest in their courses. Will Connor, who attended the event said: “Today has confirmed that I can do something to help others through my own experience. I have enquired with Rebound, who help people affected by mental health issues, about volunteering with them.”
The crowds were also wowed by two of Doncaster’s talented dance groups, Urban Dancers and Life CIC, a dance crew directed by Ryan Harston.
Doncaster NHS had a strong presence on the day promoting general health wellbeing. 15 people signed up to receive support to stop smoking and 20 people pledged to have smoke free homes to reduce the effects of passive smoking.
NDDT have received great feedback about the success of the day, and they will definitely be looking to arranging more Jobs Fairs in the future.
