Jobs Fair & Well Being Day July 2009
On Friday the 31st July, Doncaster town centre was buzzing with people visiting the Jobs Fair & Well Being Day, organised by North Doncaster Development Trust (NDDT). Whether looking for a job, training, volunteering experience, starting up in business or just wanting an enjoyable day, St. Sepulchre Gate was the place to be!
The Jobs Fair & Well Being Day was a great success for NDDT and all the organisations that attended:
The Enterprise Bus showcased the many strands of Success Doncaster, including Community Enterprise Advisors, Jobmates, Financial Inclusion and Business Start-up. The team of Jobmates started to support 90 people from Doncaster break down their barriers into work.
The Army, Special Constabulary South Yorkshire Police, St. John Ambulance, and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue recruitment stalls had lots of interest throughout the day.
“Today we have had a very productive and pro-active duty. We have issued 100 recruitment sheets. It has been the best day we have had during the past few years of the Special Constabulary recruitment day here at Doncaster.
North Doncaster Development Trust’s team has been fantastically helpful and polite and have given us a great deal of support. Once again on behalf of us today and the Special Constabulary, thank you so very much.”
Special Constable 7702 Jason Platt, South Yorkshire Police.
Doncaster College, Adult Family and Community Learning, Hargreaves Training Services Ltd, and Trackwork Training all displayed a variety of training courses available to help obtain the right skills to gain employment.
“For us this was a very successful event where we recorded 42 enquiries for courses starting in September.”
Janet Millward, Curriculum Managers, Adult, Family and Community Learning.
The NHS Health Trainers stall was very popular. 15 people received 1-2-1 advice on healthy eating, weight loss and exercise. Also, over 25 people signed up to receive support to stop smoking.
“One of the best health and jobs fair I have attended to date.”
Lorraine Bonsall, Stop Smoking Services.
Proud parents and groups of shoppers stopped to cheer on a fantastic performance by a group of children from Premier Martial Arts. There were also free treatments from nail art to Indian head massage to enjoy. Sine FM, the local community radio station, kept the crowds entertained with a live broadcast.
