Doncaster Sports Awards

The shortlists for the second One Call Doncaster Sports Awards have been drawn-up. More than double the amount of entries received last year were considered recognising the achievements of sporting heroes from the region. The impressive list of nominations triggered interesting and lengthy debate amongst the judges.
The winners will be announced at a special dinner at the Keepmoat Stadium on May 21when sporting stars from the region will gather together with the shortlisted individuals and teams to celebrate all that is great about sport in Doncaster.
Shane Chalmers, head of the Stadium Management Company said: “The standard of nominations was excellent and while there were many names we expected to see there were also a great deal of new names and a superb variety of sports represented.
“I’d like to thank Peter Catt from the Doncaster Free Press, Howard Gannaway from Doncaster Chamber, Julia Travers from the Lakeside Health and Fitness Club, John Radford from One Call Insurance and Charlotte Taylor from OnTrack PR for giving up their time to judge the awards.
“This is set to be a great event and we are looking forward to welcoming those who have been shortlisted and those who want to celebrate our region’s sporting achievements.
The shortlist for the awards in alphabetical order are:
Sports Personality of the Year
An individual whose sporting achievements have made Doncaster proud. This person will have made a real difference to the town thanks to their dedication to and achievements in their chosen sport

Junior Sports Personality of the Year (from any sports pro or amateur aged under 21)
From any sport, a young achiever whose sporting achievements in the last 12 months have highlighted their individual sporting talent.

Jemma Saunders Gymnastics
Chelsea Weston Ladies Football
Lifetime Achievement Award
To recognise an individual who has achieved in sport at regional, national or international level over a sustained period ; the individual can be a current or past sportsman, sportswoman, administrator or coach who as a result has enhanced the sporting profile to the region. Any age or gender. Winner currently being disclosed
Team of the Year (amateur)
An amateur club that has performed beyond expectations and in doing so has demonstrated the true spirit of sport.

An individual under the age of 18 who has shown true potential in any given sporting area. This individual may not have won accolades for their dedication but must be able to demonstrate a passion for their chosen sport that could lead them to bigger and better things in the future “one to watch”.
