Counselling
What is counselling?
Counselling offers a safe, friendly environment to discuss any barriers that you are experiencing which may be preventing you from accessing training and employment.
Counselling can be useful to discuss and explore these barriers which may enable you to move forward. It will not advise you what to do but will assist you in your journey through a trusting relationship that is completely confidential and non-judgmental.
This service is private and confidential.
As an Organisational Member of BACP we are bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy, the Ethical Guidelines for Researching Counselling and Psychotherapy (where organisations undertake research) and subject to the Professional Conduct Procedure for the time being in force.
Who is counselling for?
This counselling service is available for anyone engaged on the Job Mate Programme who feel that they may need additional time and support to take the steps into training or employment.
How do I contact a counsellor?
Details can be provided by the Engagement Officers and the Job Mates who will pass your details on to the counsellors so you can be contacted to arrange an appointment at your convenience.
How long does counselling take?
You will normally be offered an appointment time for up to 50 minutes. However this is flexible to suit the individual.
Appointments generally run weekly for an initial six weeks. After this time the counselling progress will be reviewed and discussed.
Further sessions can be offered if required.
